SAWCC is excited to announce Weight of Small Things: A Watercolor Still Life Workshop led by Priyam Jancosko, on October 3rd from 1-3 PM at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Study Center (2nd floor).
This workshop starts with a simple prompt: bring an object that carries weight for you, something small enough to hold in your hand, but heavy with memory.
It could be a piece of jewelry you inherited, a masala tin that traveled with your family, a good luck charm, something passed down that you still use without thinking about it. Whatever it is, bring it. We will paint it together and talk about why it matters.
No painting experience needed. Materials are provided. The conversation is as much the point as the work.
This workshop is rooted in South Asian themes of migration, memory, and the objects that quietly carry our histories across borders and generations. It is open to anyone who feels a connection to those themes, through their own background, their family, or simply their curiosity.
With your consent, your object and painting can become part of a small digital archive after the workshop, a page where each object’s photo opens to reveal the painting made of it, and the story behind it in your own words. A small object, painted and remembered, becomes something others can carry too.

About the artist:
Priyam Jancosko is a New Jersey-based artist and educator whose work explores migration, memory, and environment as shared conditions of people, places, and things. Drawing on her experience as an immigrant, she examines how movement across time and space transforms everyday life through fragments of memory, the significance of everyday objects, and the slow evolution of inhabited spaces. Her foundation is in painting, expanded through digital illustration, large-scale public work, animation, 3D modeling, and Web AR built on open-source platforms accessible without an app. Jancosko teaches Applied Technology at Monmouth Regional High School. Her work has been published in Brown Anthology and Battalion (SideKick Books, England) and selected for exhibition at the Monmouth Museum.
